Mexico City, 8 June 2016
The workshop is being co-organized by three civil society organizations (CSOs), Fundar, Centro de Análisis e Investigación, Centro de Colaboración Cívica (CCC), and Grupo Regional sobre Financiamento e Infraestructura (GREFI); and five international accountability mechanisms (IAMs) of the Inter-American Development Bank (Independent Consultation and Investigation Mechanism / MICI); World Bank Group (Inspection Panel – IBRD/IDA) and Compliance Advisor Ombudsman (CAO – IFC and MIGA); European Investment Bank (Complaints Mechanism) and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (Complaints Mechanism).
The three main objectives of the event are:
- Allow Mexican CSOs to become better acquainted with the IAMs and the dispute resolution and compliance services they provide;
- Enable the IAMs to broaden their contact with CSOs in Mexico, and especially with local organizations and communities who are among potentially affected populations; and
- Provide the IAMs and CSOS with an opportunity to exchange views on their experiences, as well as on broader accountability issues related to public and private sector development projects in Mexico.
The one-day workshop will include presentations by the different IAMs about their services and examples of their work; presentations by CSOs on their experiences with engaging the mechanisms; small group discussions related to accessing and working with the IAMs; and a broader discussion on accountability trends in development in Mexico.
